Bulls Waive JamesOn Curry; Curry Gets Pissy

By Stalkingerinandrews

Word came out of the Berto Center today that the Bulls have waived JamesOn Curry. Bulls GM John Paxson said, “With the 1st overall pick of Derrick Rose and the large contract that comes with that pick, and the contract extension we just gave Luol Deng, we just didn’t have anymore room on our roster for an impact player like JamesOn.”*

Curry averaged 20.2 ppg, 5.6 apg, and 3.2 rpg with the Iowa Energy of the NBADL, and could hold down a bench in the NBA like no other. He was second on the Bulls with 15.6 standing ovations per game.**

Joakim Noah was seen with a tear in his eye, and overheard saying that no one could find the good stuff like JamesOn could.

Curry was understandably pissed when he was told of the news.

So long, JamesOn. I wish I could say we’ll miss you, but we never saw you play a minute in the NBA. It will, however, be difficult to replace your bench presence.

*John Paxson may not have actually said this
**May not be an actual stat

Deng puts in his 2-weeks

If you were planning on buying a brand new Luol Deng #9 Bulls jersey before this season starts, you might want to hold off for a bit.

Yahoo! NBA writer Adrian Wojnarowski reports today that Bulls forward Luol Deng says he will end contract talks with the Bulls in two weeks if nothing is agreed to before Deng leaves to play in the Olympics.

Deng is determined to come to terms on a long-term contract, but he has set an Aug. 4 deadline to reach an agreement. Once Deng, 23, leaves the country for the European Championship qualifying tournament, he will [sic] sign a one-year qualifying offer for $4.5 million and become an unrestricted free agent in 2009.

The message to the Bulls promises to be implicit: Unless the two sides come to terms soon, Deng will never again negotiate with them. He will not let the uncertainty over his future hang over another basketball season, and unless a sign-and-trade is worked out, Deng will play out his final season in 2008-09 and sign elsewhere next summer.

When reached on Sunday, Deng’s agent, Jason Levien, would only say, “We continue to talk to the Bulls and remain hopeful that something can be accomplished.”

From what I've seen and heard from Luol in the past, he is not the type of guy to just casually threaten his employer. He has been very up front with Bulls management last season despite the lack of an extension and remains one of the core players from their original youth movement.

To lose Deng in a year for nothing in return would be one of John Paxson's worst failures as GM of the Bulls, and basically a terminable offense. Unless Jerry Reinsdorf is in full control of the situation, and it appears he is not, the Bulls need to come up with a contract that satisfies Deng and keeps the Bulls in the hunt for the 2010 free agency bonanza.

I think Deng is much more valuable than Ben Gordon, who also is in his own fight for the $$, and may very well be crafting his own 2-week ultimatum as I'm typing this. Deng has shown he can ball with the best, even during the playoffs (17.7/ 7.3/ 1.7), and shouldn't be regarded as just another hired hand that the Bulls can bully into agreeing to a less than fair deal.

We'll see today if the Bulls come back with a statement on Deng's posturing but they are officially on the clock and in a situation where Deng has the majority of the leverage.

Witness LeBron Bend Bulls Over

Yup. Looks like a classic Boylan lineup in action.

Tonight is the night that Bulls fans have been waiting for since Ben Wallace was shipped to Cleveland in the deadline trade a few weeks ago. I'd look up exactly when the date was but I'm just not that motivated right now to do anything when it comes to the Bulls. Ok, it was February 21st, are you happy now? Unlike Dr. C who has totally given up, I have still been watching these assholes every game and it's been quite a struggle.

I'm expecting there to be more boos tonight than when the Bulls losing in the Kobe sweepstakes. The first chorus of boos will undoubtedly be directed toward "The Body" as he is introduced in the Cavs starting lineup.

From then on out all the heckling and jeers will most likely be at the Bulls as they allow LeBron to go wherever he wants on the court and completely dominate them all night. I'm also predicting the following to happen:

  • Kirk Hinrich will commit a bad foul on a breakaway and allow the player (most likely James) to score and go for the 3-point play.
  • Ben Gordon will dribble unconsciously into a double team with his head down and either throw it away or chuck up some garbage that has no chance of going in.

  • Jim Boylan will continue to amaze viewers, this time on a National stage, with awful lineup after awful lineup. Look for some amazing "defensive" lineups that include a front court of Andres Nocioni and Drew Gooden. Also, Boylan loves to go to the 3-guard lineup but it's a shame Thabo is out because that totally ruins Jim's buzz.

  • Tyrus Thomas will be lambasted by Bill Walton for being a "bad character guy" and a "dumb young guy" even though Walton probably will find out what happened minutes before the broadcast.

This will be brought up numerous times throughout the game, pretty much anytime LeBron gets wide open for a big dunk or makes a defender look bad.

  • The Cavs will overcome a double-digit deficit in the second half, most likely due to LeBron taking over the game, and the Bulls will either lose in regulation or in overtime if they're lucky.

  • Scott Skiles will turn the channel to the game during a commercial break from Lost just as Hinrich pulls his mouthguard out after committing that bad foul on a soon-to-be 3-point play and crack a half smile, making it the closest thing to a laugh in his entire life.

I will be running home from work tonight to catch this game and I expect to be half in the bag right around the 3rd quarter's end, when the score is going to be about 67-60 Bulls.

The only consolation to the mess that will be the Bulls game tonight is an actual competition between two teams with chemistry and equal athletic ability that follows the Bulls game. No, I'm not talking about Kenny vs. Spenny, but that's a damn good show. I'm looking forward to the Rockets vs. Maverick's game tonight, even if the Mavs are without Dirk.

For anyone expecting to watch this game tonight: I suggest you start drinking heavily. Is it baseball season yet?
